The thing I love most about this session is how naturally it unfolded with so little prompting from me. We are able to get quite a few shots of the whole family together without me really posing or directing anyone, which is so rare! It was really more like a documentary family photo session than anything else.

I’ve photographed this gorgeous family several times over the last few years, and because their boys are so comfortable with me now, I’m able to just hang around in the background and capture them in their pure play flow state.

This vibe is such a joy for me as a photographer. I love being able to hang back and capture what’s unfolding — to just follow the light and connection and sense of play. Some photographers prefer to pose and direct, and I totally get that. But for me, this type of session is a creative challenge and where so much beauty unfolds.

I love the bare feet, the cozy sweaters, the laid back vibe, and the earth tones of this gallery. Not to mention the cutie redheaded boys that just steal my heart every time. <3
