Photos capture a moment, but films let you relive the story again and again.

At Multimedia Sessions, I capture PHOTOS in the Sunday Vibes style, as well as VIDEO throughout the session.
Afterward, in addition to editing and delivering your photos, I also edit together a short family film. It contains clips from your session, artfully edited together and set to music.

Multimedia sessions work similarly to photo sessions -- It's just me and my camera (no extra lighting or gear. I simply capture video clips in addition to still photos.

Each finished film is a highly curated set of clips, artfully edited together and set to thoughtfully hand-selected, independent, licensed music.

Multimedia sessions work almost just like my photography sessions, with a couple of key differences.
  • LENGTH- When shooting both video and photos, sessions take a little bit more time. A typical photo session is between 60 and 90 minutes, but multimedia sessions are around 2 hours. But don’t worry – you won’t be posing or being “on” that whole time. In fact, the whole point is to capture the ebb and flow of a day in your family life. Having a snack, relaxing on the couch, reading books in a cozy spot – all of that is fair game for a session “activity!"

  • AUDIO - One of my favorite parts of shooting video is the ability to capture audio – little ones’ voices, parents talking to their kiddos, laughter, storytelling, etc. Since I’m focused on capturing the audio of how your family is interacting, I talk a lot less at multimedia sessions.
  • I still put down my camera every so often to chat, play, or direct. But I also spend a lot of time capturing video and audio clips of how things are naturally unfolding.

  • MORE DOCUMENTARY STYLE - Family filmmaking is all about storytelling, which is why I love it so much. So, when I’m shooting video, I capture much more than I would at a typical photo session. I capture clips of the setting, little details around your home, etc.
  • I’m also focused on telling the whole story of a scene – beginning, middle, and end – not just the “pretty parts” in the middle. So, for example, if the family is going outside to feed the chickens, I’ll capture putting on shoes, heading out the door, and everything leading up to the cute chicken event!
  • A more documentary approach also means we do a little bit more planning of the session ahead of time so that I can do less directing in the moment. We’ll talk beforehand about what family moments you want to capture so that the time during the session can flow seamlessly from one activity to the next.

What are Multimedia sessions like?

I already talked a little bit about this in the previous question!
But essentially, it takes more time to capture video clips AND photos than it does to just capture photos.
Plus, I’m looking at capturing storytelling elements so that a whole scene can unfold, which just requires spending a little more time shooting.

Why are Multimedia sessions longer than photo sessions?

For me, adding voices, movement, and mannerisms to the family storytelling experience adds a whole new level of magic and nostalgia.
But seeing is really believing.

What makes video so special?

I source music for all of my films through Musicbed! This helps ensure that the music is high quality and licensed appropriately.

What music do you choose for the family film?

Capturing, editing, and archiving video is FAR more time intensive and expensive than just photos, so it’s more of an investment for you, as the client.
But once you see how powerful it is to see your memories captured in this way, I think you’ll be sold, just like I was!

Why do multimedia sessions cost more?

YES! And this is something I’m SUPER excited about!
Now, every Multimedia session includes a Motion Book –
a beautiful coffee table video book that displays your family film right on your coffee table.

I purchased one for our family, and my kids are OBSESSED with watching and rewatching all the videos of them as babies and toddlers. It's truly magical.

Is there any way to display videos, like I would my photos?
