In these dog days of humid, Richmond summer, it can be tough for a lot of folks to get excited about an outdoor family photography session. I get it: it’s just soooo hot.
But I’ve found that doing an early morning session at a shady park is totally doable! 8:30 or 9am is perfect — kids are still fresh, the sun isn’t too hot, and when we’re done, you still have the whole day to enjoy as a family.
This session with Jillian, Jake, and little Juliana took place at Deep Run Park in Henrico. It was special to capture one a tradition their family often enjoys on the weekends: coffee and books on a picnic blanket at the park.
Documentary family photography is all about capturing the real ways your family spends time together — but doing it in an artful way that shows the beauty in the little, ordinary details that we often overlook.
Essentially, the documentary approach is about telling the story, not just capturing the moment.
